Title: Kaminari Girls Above the Clouds
Gift for: [personal profile] eccentricyoruba
By: [personal profile] hvalrann
Gift type: Fiction, 9270 words with bonus art
Genre: steampunk
Rating: appropriate for general audiences
Warnings: none
Summary: Two girls who work for the air-mail postal system in an alternate-history 1730s Japan take a day off for adventure.
Giftcreator's notes: For the prompt: "Steampunk-ish story involving the discovery of a group of human beings who can fly." I owe a great deal to the imaginations of a number of anonymous historical people in different cultures, who gave me some of the most interesting elements of the story. Of course, I have taken some liberties - for example, Mochizuki was a real post station on the Nakasendô, but just as a place to stop overnight for travellers heading to and from Edo. During the Tokugawa period, there was no organized mail service in Japan, let alone an airborne one. And of course, many thanks to my brainstorming assistant and beta, B.

Gift for: [personal profile] leek
By: [personal profile] foxfinial
Gift type: Fiction, approx 2,700 words
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: 12A
Warnings: Threatened violence, swearing (the f-word).
Summary: A town built on a lake is afflicted with a curse. A wandering gunslinger arrives in the town hoping to solve her own problems, but things don't turn out as she planned.
Giftcreator's notes: SIMILES FOR THE SIMILE GOD. =D This was fun to write! It's eventually going to expand into a novel, I think, so I really hope it works well as a short story. Enjoy!
