Title: Don’t Walk Away
Gift for: thousandth
By: [anonymous]
Gift type: Fiction; ~200 words
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Would you turn away from a need? Inspired by true events, and told from an unlikely perspective, this is a story of finding a home…
Oh my god… I’m so thirsty. Where am I? Last thing I remember… I can’t remember the last thing I remember. Who am I? White, everything is white. Bright light. Dry, so very dry. Not overly warm, though. Rather comfortably cool. That’s good. Look on the up side! Something’s not horrible. I’m confused and thirsty and – wait, what’s that?
People walking by. Staring. Not saying anything, just looking at me. What? What are you looking at? Yeah, that’s right, just walk on by, as I lay here dying.
Oh god, I am dying. I can feel it. This isn’t melodrama, this isn’t me overreacting. I am dying. Shriveling. I need water. Please, someone, anyone, I need water! Help me! Why won’t you help me?! Don’t walk away! Don’t pretend you can’t hear me! Please, please, just a drop of water…
Charlie turned the corner and stared at the conference table. Why would someone do that? A small baby spider plant was lying in the center of it, just abandoned there. Couldn’t even be bothered to put it in a jar of water. Ah well, that’s easy enough, and, hey, free houseplant! Must be my lucky day.
